Corrugation

Corrugation, also known as “wash-boarding,” is a series of closely-spaced ridges and valleys (ripples) occurring at fairly regular intervals, usually less than 10 ft (3 m) along the pavement. The ridges are perpendicular to the traffic direction. This type of distress usually is caused by traffic action combined with an unstable pavement surface or base.

Severity Description
Low Corrugation produces low-severity ride quality.
Medium Corrugation produces medium-severity ride quality.
High Corrugation produces high-severity ride quality.
